Synopsis
The Espírito Santo group is now synonymous with one of the world’s most catastrophic bankruptcy scandals.
A family that survived the fall of the monarchy, prospered under the dictatorship, and was later expelled by the Portuguese Revolution on April 25th, 1974. They soon returned in the 1980s to buy back their own bank, quickly establishing the group as a pillar of the Portuguese economy and a key player in international markets.
By 2014, the group had companies in almost 50 countries, and as the frontman, Ricardo Salgado risked everything: international credit, client money, political influence, and friendships. One day, they found themselves broken and helpless.
