Waylon tornou-se mais conhecido do público depois da sua atuação no Got Talent Holland em 2008. Um ano depois, tornou-se no primeiro artista holandês a assinar com a Motown Label. Wicked Way era o nome do seu primeiro single, no seu álbum de estreia Wicked Ways.
Em 2011 Waylon lançou o seu segundo álbum, After All, e depois foi votado Best Vocalist pela 3FM.
Em 2014, e enquanto trabalhava no seu terceiro álbum, formou um duo com Ilse DeLange e participaram no Eurovision Song Contest. Conseguiram o 2.º lugar e, logo depois, o terceiro álbum de Waylon, Heaven After Midnight, foi lançado e catapultado para número 1. Entretanto, já tem à venda um quarto álbum, Seeds.
Em 2016 Waylon foi júri no programa de TV It Takes Two e mentor no The Voice of Holland.
